A MAJOR PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT
A few years ago, on the way back to Melbourne from having just photographed an epic wedding at the beautiful Katherine Gorge, NT, I decided to detour via Alice Springs to go climb ULURU (formerly known as Ayers Rock). The climb turned out to be an extreme challenge both physically and mentally. About half way up I became so absolutely exhausted I had to stop and sit down. It dawned on me I was not going to finish this, and an overwhelming sense of failure came over me. As I sat there all alone on the world’s biggest rock in the middle of nowhere, I slipped into a meditative state of mind, and I literally imagined myself summoning energy from the surrounding universe. Sounds weird perhaps but it worked!
I rose up and continued on step-by-step, ever so determined. Finally I reached the summit and I felt the most incredible sense of achievement that I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. It was exhilarating! Plus as a bonus, amazingly I had one bar of mobile signal and I face-timed my wife and daughter all the way back in Melbourne with the news. I was so very proud of myself that day. As for the climb back down? Well that’s another story 🙂
I’m a full time, Melbourne based Wedding Photographer who is very passionate about what I do. I love weddings.
Yes I specialise in the style known as ‘Wedding Photojournalism’. It’s more of a modern approach that concentrates on documenting and capturing all the emotion, fun, candid, and awesome moments from weddings. The images taken are mostly unposed, unprompted and natural, revealing the true story, heart & soul of weddings!
They love my photojournalistic style, and the fact that they have more time on their wedding day to enjoy with family and guests. I’m often like a fly on the wall, and they hardly notice me at times.
My 100% care factor. As an example I actually only photograph one wedding per weekend because I care so much about my couples that I want to give them my full 100% attention to their wedding only, before and afterwards. They deserve me at my freshest and best!
Some may think I am expensive, and that I don’t take any of the usual family/bridal photos. However that’s not true. I am very reasonably priced and I certainly do still take those standard wedding photos, the difference being I do so quickly, efficiently and painlessly.
I once had a bride who in the middle of family photos, in front of a crowd, asked to see some of the images I was taking. I showed her the back of my camera and she screamed out very loudly for all to hear that she hated herself in the photos and she started to cry. It was very embarrassing, and I felt so terrible for her and myself in front of everyone. I had to think really fast, and I remembered earlier in the day seeing her take selfies where she held her phone way up in the air above her head to get a downwards angle. So I asked the venue owner for a step ladder which placed me up in the air too, at the same angle as her selfies. From then on she loved the photos.
